Re: Tirant as an example of Chivalry
Right glad am I you caught my error on 'Don Quixote.' In my haste to reply
my brain failed to fully remember a few basic facts. I remembered that
Cervantes loved 'Tirant' enough to praise it as a wonderful book -- a century
later -- after I went to bed. He recognized its immense entertainment value.
I dispute however your ascertation that 'Tirant' was not popular in its time.
It was indisputably immensely popular on the continent having been almost
immediately translated into other languages of the Spanish penninsula and
after not too many years into French. It just never made it into English
until this century.
