Also attributed to a French archbishop whose name escapes me, before the
crusaders entered Antioch and were unclear as to how to distinguish the
Christians from the Moslems.

Actually, it was _Edward_ III Plantagenent; great-grandson of Henry III,
but the rest of the particulars are right. :)

Sorry, but it was Pope Saint Gregory the Great (Pope Gregory I) who is
reported to have said that (by Bede in the Historia Ecclesiastica Gentis
Anglorum).
