Tug-o-War game

Greetings all!  At Coronation this past weekend, a good gentle brought a
game similar to tug-of-war, where you stand on two platforms and try to
either pull the other guy off, or get him to let go of the rope.  I was
told it was a German game, but cannot remember the name, or the datess
when it would have been played.  If that gentle is lurking here, or if
anyone else knows the game in question, would you please let me know the
name of it, when it cam about, any documentation, etc.. so that I may
teach it to others?
