Session 7, August 24-30 (one week)

Medieval Illumination & The Artist's Book
We will begin by learning the materials, methods, and techniques of
medieval manuscript gold illumination. The profound effect of this
historical technique will then be applied to contemporary book art.
Students will create artist's books incorporating gold illumination with
text and design. Please bring a text to work with. Painter, illuminator,
and calligrapher; teaching: Cloisters Museum (NYC), Pierpont Morgan
Library, Getty Museum; paintings and books exhibited in galleries and
museums nationally; represented by the Cavin-Morris Gallery (NYC).
