Lady Giusi,

I am not scholored enough to answer you question about
the giving of honey too children in medieval times.
Of course infant mortality seems to have stayed at
about 50% until the 19th century when improvements
in hygene and immunalzation started to bring the
numbers down. There was a Yankee version of the sugar
tit that you describe. It was also used in industrial
England. The cloth was soaked in a mixture of gin
and laudamun (opium solution). I imagin it was effective
in keeping a child quiet while the mother was working.
