tree coming down

I have a double mock Peach tree that died over the winter and is 
going to come down this weekend.  The back is splitting and the wood 
is dried as it stands.  Can I still use this wood for anything?  I 
tried to get my husband to take it down before Christmas when we 
realized it was dead but it just didn't happen.  Now I am worried 
that the wood might not be fit for instruments, carving, or even 
feast gear.  Can anyone tell me?  I would hate to through it in the 
woods if I or someone else can use it.
