TURKU Eurasian Folk Ensemble will celebrate the release of their new CD
"Alleys of Istanbul" with a 2-hour concert of "High Energy Eurasian
Tribal
Music & Dance." on Saturday, September 12 at 8:00 pm at Hanes Art
Auditorium
on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Tickets are
$10 general admission, $8 students.

TURKU performs traditional rural and urban folk songs from the cultures
of
Turkey, Azerbaijian, Iran, Kurdistan, and the Balkans on traditional
instruments of Eurasia featuring: Farzad Farhangi on Oud & Violin, Ted
Monnich
on Saz & Divan, Shahriar Panahi on Tar, Carla Monnich on Davul, Santuri,
Klarnet, & Zils, and David Korup on Dumbek.

TURKU's high energy performances have earned, from the press, the lable
"300
year old rock & roll from the seat of civilization," and their concerts
have
repeatedly sold out throughout the Eastern US, being overwhelmingly
popular
with the alternative music crowd who have refered to TURKU's music and
sound
as "exciting" and "refreshing."
