I agree, that is the best part. Warriors of chivalry and honest intent
can decide without outside intervention, and resolve differences or errors
easily and without ill-feeling. The theory and practice of personal
honour allow our game, when it works well, to shine in a glory that is
unlikely to ever be achieved in some other, refereed system.
Sadly, it is also the worst part. When adrenaline, anger, or (very
rarely) deliberate cheating intervene. Our problem-solving methods are
entirely inadequate in these cases, and our preoccupation with personal
honour makes it _more_ difficult to resolve problems.
