I am truly sorry to hear that a genuine offer of assistance has been
rebuffed.  Perhaps the area that you were interested in was already well
covered by the event crew.  Your comments are a reminder to those of us
who autocrat to be just as courteous to those who offer as to those to
who join the event staff. In any case, as you mentioned, I have never
seen an offer to wash dishes turned down!

For those who are unsure of how to volunteer, when you note which events
in your area you plan to attend you can always volunteer by contacting
the autocrat before hand.  Hopefully,  there will be a place for you to
join in making the event happen.
