What weight of fabric are oyu using? And what size belt? The belt is very
important. This should be a thick, wide sturdy belt, because it has a lot of
weight to hold up and it is the only thing keeping you dressed! If you are
using a wool or wool blend plaid with some decent weight and a wide belt, you
really should not have a problem. I can't imagine you having the belt that
tight and still have the material slip out. Let me know how you are putting
it on. That may be the problem....

Well, go to any good fabric store and see what king of wool blends they have.
Pick either a tartan or a solid colour in shades that look like they can be
obtained with period dyes and that you find attractive. Browns and other dark
colours were especially popular in the 16th century. Look for double width,
or if you want to be especially period, get singht width and stitch two
lengths together. You will want 4 - 5 yards of double width, or 8 - 10 yards
of single width. Make sure it has some weight to is--at least a 12 oz,
although 13 oz or heavier would be preferable.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
