Oh, I'm fully aware of the fact that slavery was a part of the
mediaeval economy. By and large, though, it died out in Atlantic
Europe some time after the Viking period. It appears to have been
very much alive in the Mediterranean coasts of Africa, Asia, and
Europe well into modernity. Reports from the Sudan and Mauretania
show that it's hardly dead in Africa.

Actually, it looks like Christians sometimes took other
Christians as slaves-see what became of the Children's Crusade.

We don't recreate slavery in the SCA, as a rule, but our personae
would have lived in a world where it was normal-yet another
reason why I think a fully realized persona probably isn't
possible.
