Milord,

I must confess I'm curious as to the basis for that last statement. Last
Pennsic I hung out with an Eastern duellist named (if memory serves)
Isabeau (Aedan would know for sure - he & Maureen introduced me to her)
who had an absolutely GORGEOUS silk doublet, completely rapier-legal,
which she had specifically had punch-tested to make certain of its
impenetrability.

Silk isn't as heavy as cotton duck, and thus doesn't provide much in the
way of padding, but the heavier silks are so closely woven and so durable
that I can't imagine any reason NOT to use them in rapier armor. (And
they'd be much lighter-weight heat-wise, which at Pennsic would be most
desirable!)

If I err in any particular here, I'm sure Aedan will correct me; if I'm
missing something obvious about the properties of silk, by all means
please let me know...

In service, and out of curiosity,

							melys
