Greetings to all in the Merry Rose!
I am partially a new comer to this listserver, but not too new.
My lady and I have had many discussions about the Atlantian list so
here comes my 2 pence:

We as a KINGDOM have a lot in the way of growing to do. Anyone
who has had the opportunity to travel outside (read:WAY outside) this
fair and lovely Kingdom, can tell you things are done differently
everywhere, but we have a lot in common. But there is an overriding
theme throughout the SCA, it is the theme that drew me in many moons
ago... chivilary and honor. In my humble opinion these are not
loosely defined, ambigious terms.
I do think, however, many in this Society have tried to make these
themes bend and twist to fit their 'definition' of OUR Society. There
is a major problem when the Pennsic Handbook has to tell us that some
things that have been allowed in this Society are simply not in the
definition of the game We have ALL agreed to play. When I was at
Estrella War I for the first time felt as if I had been transported
to a medieval battle and a medieval life. These are NOT judgements
about anyone or any Kingdom, just observations. We all can work to
recreate the middle ages, in our own way. If you see a lady w/ an
armfull of stuff, help her. If you see a person wandering around at
an event aimlessly, talk to them. Chivialry and Honor are the basis
of our Society, women are NOT pieces of meat, and all
gentles are
deserving of respect unless they prove otherwise. This is where I
begin my pursuit of the 'Dream' I have had a glimpse of.

In Service to Atlantia,
Ciaran MacGhobhainn
