Yes, I have heard of Penthesilea, Camilla, and Hippolyte. Try Bulfinch's
Mythology for basic introductory material about them. Semiramis and
Zenobia I know only as warrior queens, nothing of their stories <sigh>.
However, I don't know Roman history and folklore enough to know of the
Latin women mentioned in the text.
Too bad the king in TlB didn't know about Boudicca <EVIL grin>! Or even
Elen of the Hosts, the Welsh heroine of Macsen's dream (see the Jeffrey
Gantz translation of the Mabinogion). I will see about finding a way to
scan in 'The Dream of Maxen' for you, Alfredo (no, I won't type it in,
it's too long - tendonitis). You've entertained us so long, it's only fair
for one of us to take a turn.
