Re: Activity Survey

Alfredo,
Note the opinions and ratings below are my personal ones. Since my
views tend to be based on:
1) Its a GAME!!! We SHOULD be having fun.
2) Our Society (titles, courts, etiquette, the interaction between
various personas, etc. You know, the social aspects) CAN'T be
based on a period model, because no period model covers almost
1000 years and (I don't even want to get into the discussion of
how many) LOTS of cultures, sub-cultures, geographic locations,
etc.
3) Variety is what adds spice to the SCA (and all of life).
I am certain to annoy some people merely by assigning the following
values. Oh well, this often seems to be the mission of "House
Falconguard and Associated Scum".
A: Singing songs about the SCA, set to 20th century tunes.
+2: You'll fit right in doing this.
(Actually, I'd rather give at a +3, but I LOVE filk).
B: Singing songs about or from post-Period Scotland, Ireland, or Canada.
+2: You'll fit right in doing this.
C: Singing songs from the Period in the original language.
+3: I wish more people would do this.
D: Having myself called into court to make a fawning tribute to royalty.
+1: Some people really like this, and nobody really hates it.
E: Having myself called into court to publicly proclaim love for my wife.
+1: Some people really like this, and nobody really hates it.
F: Wearing various unregistered fool attire:
F-a: Jester's cap and bells of two ears per pale argent and azure.
+1: Some people really like this, and nobody really hates it.
F-b: Cavalier breeches and coat per pale argent and azure.
+0: This is about what I'd expect from you.
(Parti-colored cavalier?! Yech. But if you really want to wear it...)
F-c: T-tunic per pale blue plaid and red plaid.
+2: You'll fit right in doing this.
F-d: Lots and lots of bells, at wrists and ankles, and on my zone.
-4: Depending on the site, this may be against mundane law.
(For the humor-impaired, the preceding rating is what's known as
a joke.)
G: Bringing in a big box of board games
+2: You'll fit right in doing this.
(Although I would encourage more historical than fantasy games,
and then teach people to play.)
H: Spinning a bamboo humming top.
+0: This is about what I'd expect from you.
(Depending on how loud it is, I might end up suggesting that it is
an outdoor activity. Also, I would love to know if you can provide
documentation on its use in period.)
I: Shouting "Vivant!" instead of "Vivat!" when more than one person
is being acclaimed.
+3: I wish more people would do this.
J: Shouting "Vivamus!" instead of "Vivat!" when the acclamation is
something like "To the Populace"
+3: I wish more people would do this.
K: When a lady offers her hand, bowing low and placing her hand on
the top of my head.
L: Performing half of a comic dialog in Latin.
+3: I wish more people would do this.
M: During the feast, proposing a toast ("Incolumes reveniant") for
all Scadians mundanely deployed in harm's way.
+1: Some people really like this, and nobody really hates it.
One overall note. I responded very enthusiastically about more and
more accurate use of languages from period. If you do so to any great
degree, prepare & provide translations & explanations for those of us
that are limited in that realm (I only have some modern French, and 2
years of Latin a loooong time age). One might even encourage you to
teach such things at University.
