Because, as far as we know, none were directly commissioned by
him. Kendall seems to think that they were done from the memories
of the artists after Richard had died. Believe it or not, Richard
was immensely popular in England, before and after his death,
especially north of the Trent, where he was Edward's Keeper of
the North. A portrait of a much-liked man like him would have
been valuable to a man from Durham or some other northern shire.
