Alfredo, I hate to disappoint you, but I *did* tell the whole story.  If
you continue to insist that I did not, I shall be greatly hurt. 

You also ask a great many interesting questions, and for most of them I do
not have an answer.  The naming of toes was likely meant to be modern
scientific Latin rather than classical, as I think the originator of them
was a doctor rather than a classicist, or even a mediaevalist.  As for the
names of the digits and their derivations, you would do better to consult
a medical authority rather than a mediaevalist like me (as I am not even a
specialist in mediaeval medicine). 

Lastly, good gentles, this thing was a *joke*, written, published and 
quoted as such.  I hardly think it warrants the kind of discussion it's 
been given here.
