My problem with this is that this relies on a period manner of chivalry which
the SCA does not otherwise practice. I think that if we're going to do SCA
chivalry (which has female peers on their own right et al), we shouldn't
suddenly do a 180 to have ladies escorted into court. Under this theory a
female knight-to-be would have to be escorted while a male knight-to-be would
not. Suddenly it seems the male has more precedance and rights (at least in
court) since he may approach the throne without another at his side. Do we
want this in Atlantia? I say not. We should either have all escorted to
the throne or none. No question. Foolish sexism is a thing the SCA decided
not to recreate and I think we should not allow it to creep in the back door.
(And I hold doors for people no matter what their sex...) Modernistic? Yes.
But so are female peers in the view of old chivalry.
