Frankly, I think the main question as far as court is concerned is 'Is it fun
and entertaining?' Having watched various levels of court and the effort put
into them, I think the only things that make court dull are: 1) If you can't
hear anything, and 2) If it isn't done in a smooth-paced but entertaining
way. If you can't hear it, you miss the entertainment value, and if it isn't
kept moving, it can drag. Lately, though, I've seen some very fun courts.
Vis a vis the escort issue, I prefer to be escorted. I have a very bad case
of stage fright, and having a second person there makes it possible for me to
not feel the weight of all those eyes. Also, I view it the same way I view
having doors opened. By allowing someone to escort me, I am giving them an
opportunity to display courtesy. It's just the way I was brought up. I tend
to briefly curtsey before empty thrones, since they represent the Crown.
