I thought the Richard III society had (at least at one point) an aim of 
"clearing Richard's name" of the calumnies heaped on him by various parties. 
 Is that mistaken, or have they broadened their focus?

The Richard III Society is a group which, since the 20's, has
supported research into the fifteenth century. It's a 501<c>3,
just like the SCA. They've got a webpage at:
