I beg to differ. Good grammar checkers are extremely inexpensive, or at
least relatively so, since the best grammar checker is your own brain.
Now we all went to school at some point where we learned grammar and
phonetics et. al. Whenever I have a problem, I grab a reference book
like a dictionary, thesaurus or a book on english usage and look it
up. If I don't have those references handy, I will usually hold off
posting until I get home, or make a note that I'm unsure of the spelling
or whatever.
But Jonathon brings up a good point, that correcting someone online
is often deemed as rude and will more often than (different word than
then ;-) not lead to a flame war. Perhaps the best way to encourage
others to improve their use of language is to take it offline. This
way you haven't called someone out in public and humiliated them.
In service,
Corun
