I can get by in French and get in trouble in Spanish... on a camping trip 
through Europe (Luxemborg, France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany) it amazed me 
how fast Italian sinks in enough to be usable... and how =every time= I 
ordered a meal in Germany I never got what I thought I was asking for. 
 French, Spanish and Italian are amazingly similar on a functional level.
