You knew I'd know this, didn'tcha ;)
Actually, "Are Ye Sleepin' Maggie?" was written by the Scottish
poet/songwriter Robert Tannahill (1774-1810), who was a contemporary of
Robbie Burns. Dougie MacLean records the song on his recording Real
Estate (or maybe Whitewash, I forget) and more recently on Tribute. Here
are the complete lyrics, with my translation of Scots words in brackets.
Aye,
Eogan Og Mac Labruinn

ARE YE SLEEPIN' MAGGIE?
by Robert Tannahill
Mirk [gloomy] and rainy is the nicht [night]
There's no a star 'n a' [all] the carry
Lightnings gleam athwart the lift
And winds drive on wi' [with] winter's fury
O are ye sleepin' Maggie
O are ye sleepin' Maggie
Let me in for loud the linn [waterfall]
Is roarin o'er the warlock craigie [rock]
Fearfu' soughs [sighs] the boortree [shrub] bank
The rifted wood roars wild and dreary
Loud the iron yett [gate] does clank
And cry o' howlets mak's ne eerie
O are ye sleepin' Maggie, etc.
Aboon [above] my breath I daurna [dare not] speak
For fear I rouse your waukrife [in a light sleep] daddie
Cauld's [cold's] the blast upon my cheek
O rise arise my bonnie lady!
O are ye sleepin' Maggie, etc.
She op't [opened] the door, she let him in
He' cast aside his dreepin' [dripping] plaidie
Blaw [blow] you warst [your worst] ye rain an' win [wind]
Since Maggie now I'm in aside ye
Now since ye're wakin' Maggie!
Now since ye're wakin' Maggie!
What care I for howlets [owls] cry
For boortree [shrub] bank or warlock craigie [rock]
