Yes. And before that Chaucer mentions him in the Knight's Tale.
I heard that the modern word "clue" comes from Chaucer writing
about the "clew", or ball of thread, that Ariadne gave Theseus
to mark his way through the Labyrinth.
And so it was that latere,
As the Millere toold his tale,
That hire face, at first Iuste gostely,
Toornd a whytere shade of pale.
