Re: domesday list

Poster: Mark Schuldenfrei <schuldy@abel.MATH.HARVARD.EDU>

Does anyone know the origin of the term "Domesday list" or "Doemsday
book?" I always thought it was a reference to the list Augustus Caesar
commanded to be made in the Bible (Luke2:1-3); am i correct, or is there
  another reference?

Domesday Book - also Doomsday Book noun
The written record of a census and survey of English landowners and
their property made by order of William the Conqueror in
1085-1086. [From Middle English domesday, doomsday. See DOOMSDAY.]

doomsday - noun
Judgment Day. [Middle English domesday, from Old English domes dfg
: dom, judgment. See DOOM + dfg, day. See DAY.]
