Period Portraits

Hi all, I'm researching the subject of Oil painting, speciafically
portraiture, in period. Does anyone have any texts they might recommend?
I'd be especially interested in anything that demostrates the period method
of glazing, or anyone who could help me learn it. I've started my search
with Lorne Campbel's book "Renn. Portraits".
