Pavilion Pennants

My Lady Wife and I just bought a pavilion, and I would very much like to fly
small pennons with our arms from the center uprights, which extend through the
roof at the ends of the ridgepole.

Problem is, if we erect it as advised, setting up the corners and then
installing the ridgepole, the center uprights are out of reach even when the
roof is down.

Has anyone a method for positioning pennon poles atop a pavilion?
