Splat a Rat!

Poster: rmhowe <magnusm@ncsu.edu>

A friend in England and I were talking about the similarity between
playing fair games and getting in new SCA fighters to practice on:

> >We got this game at the fairs called Whack A
> >Mole. You take this club and try to beat any of nine moles on the head
> >who emerge from their holes on top of a table. Some folks have great
> >fun with it. Some folks never seem to grow out of it. Meaning SCA.
>
> Sounds a bit like our Splat a Rat !

(I suppose *that* depends on *how* one sees one's opponent.)

> >Ever seen someone play the Mongoose Game on someone?
> >At the state fair, which is a mere two miles from here, the farmers
> >have these games they play on the spectators.
>
> >One of them is the Mongoose Game. Most folks don't know what a mongoose
> >is, but they have heard of one. So what the farmers do is construct a
> >long box with a wire screen at one end. There is some straw in it, and
> >they make you get down kinda close to look in the end. It's dark inside
> >and you look real hard. About the time you get close to the box which
> >they are beating on to get the mongoose excited, they let loose the
> >spring hinge on the top end and the door flies open catapulting
> >the fake mongoose right at you!. Scares the s**t out of the spectators.
> >The mongoose is hooked to the door and flies loose. Great fun to
> >watch them scream. Might work well at a demo. Mostly fake fur and a
> >long tail with some stuffing. Usually see lots of cows, some of them
> >are sitting on stuffed scarecrows. :)
>
> No I must try it sounds fun ! I think we'd have to change it to ferret or
> something no Mongooses here !

A little something to consider on a slow day.
