Sure!  Find somebody in your area that can get access to large plastic
barrels.  Pickle barrel probably isn't quite good enough.  You'll find that
these large plastic barrels are readily available, are frequently given
away, and can be cut into just about anything you need.  Short of the
helmet, of course.  If you want a slightly different version, I believe that
Sir Korby's armor consists of a gambeson with sections of garden hose sewn
into the lining.
