RE: Broken Bones
Greetings from Richard,
The only bone I've ever broken was a bone chip on the tip of a finger more
than a dozen years ago.
The knee injuries I suffered in high school were far more debilitating and
dealing with their legacy is far more difficult than my old finger tip bone
chip.
For all of you who moan about how the state of the art is falling into the
dumper, I maintain that in the area of injuries things are much better than
they have ever been. When I was first Earl Marshal the percentage of
fighters who were dealing with serious injury (mostly hand injuries) was
much higher than it is now. This is mostly due to the now common use of
basket hilts but is also reflected in all armor.
I believe that since I joined the SCA there has been a very very slow
increase in overall acknowledgment in all of the SCA. The increase has been
slightly faster in Atlantia than in the rest of the SCA. I do not believe
that there is a significant difference between acknowledgment in Atlantia
and that in a half dozen other kingdoms. There are a half dozen kingdoms
that have an acknowledgement level noticeably lower than ours.
Yours in Service to Atlantia,
Duke Richard Fitzgilbert
(Jeffrey Sussman)
