Attention Garbaholics

Poster: "Louise Sugar" <dragonfyr@tycho.com>

This fellow is advertising fabric for Civil War reenactors but may easily
have period type fabric that the SCA garb people can use. Hope this is
helpful

Marling & Evans Ltd is a very long established West of England Woollen cloth
manuafacturer. The business was originally founded in the 16th century -
though there have been some changes since!

Over the centuries the company has supplied uniform cloth, and although our
main business is now cloth for upper market gentlemen's and ladies' clothing
(in the states Polo Ralph Lauren is a principal customer) we have lately
used our expertise to create special cloths for re-enactors - from Vikings
to WW1 soldiers.

Recently we were asked to investigate the possibilities of making Jean cloth
for Civil War uniforms, and have come up with a quality and colour range
which is finding favour on this side of the atlantic with American Civil War
re-enactors. I think our quality is better than that of the jean cloths I
have seen: so many makers of historical textiles assume that with age goes a
rough-and-readiness! In fact 19th century cloth making was a highly skilled
art.

The cloth we have come up with is 60" wide and is made in (approx) 67 yard
pieces. We have prepared a colour blanket of approximately 300 subtle shades
(blues, greys, buffs etc) in the correct Civil War colour area.

We are now looking for selected companies/re-enactment societies to work
with in the US. If this cloth might be of interest to you, please email me
to discuss the matter further. We can also develop and supply historical
cloth for other re-enactment periods too!

Best regards
