Courtliness, SCA, Cloved Fruit

Greetings All!

I have to agree with the spirit of your point. I have noticed (in my short
time) in the SCA, there has been a perception, on my part, that a good deal
of newer Scadains do not understand what is Courtly Love.
To help remedy this, I taught a class (three Universities ago??) on the very
subject. I figured those attending would be male fighter types nad that is
the demographic I targeted with my research. Imagine my surprise when I
walked into the classroom and found all ladies in attendance. Talk about
ad-lib!
I have also seen an unburdend fighter walking beside my lady (and talking to
her) as she was struggling to carry a heavy and cumbersome load. I went
sprinting across the field to help her. The fighter never offered to help
her.
There are more issues that go hand in hand with courtly love, and what it is
not.
I can say with confidence one SCA tradition that is pretty widely practiced
and is NOT based in courtly love in ANY way is Cloved Fruit. Don't be
fooled. I've done the research.
