About that parking

As has been noted, GMU's privatized parking "service" is going to charge
us to park our cars on campus this weekend, at University Atlantia.

Karen has moved heaven and earth and has gotten the normal payment
($1 per hour, max payment $5) knocked down to $3 if you tell them,
as you enter, that you are with the SCA. You would pay $3 flat,
up front, to get that rate.

For the Bold and Anarchistic: There is another way, a Loophole in
the System of Oppression. The parking deck gate attendant gets off work 
at 5 pm. Anyone leaving after 5 pm will find an open, unoccupied gate and
can leave the garage for free. Now, this is a mild risk. You are risking
having to pay an additional $2 over your more conservative friends, who 
obediently paid their $3 entry fee. There is that chance that Colonial 
Parking will see all the cars at 5 pm and elect to pay some minimum wage 
guy an additional hour or two in order to collect all those juicy five 
dollar bills. But I don't think they will.

If this gamble succeeds, you will have reclaimed your American Frontier 
Heritage of Free Land, at least for a few hours, and you can't plow it 
and plant wheat; but it beats paying your hard-earned bucks just to 
abandon your vehicle in a pay parking garage while the cops and tow 
trucks patrol several hundred acres of empty parking lots on a Saturday.
