The Atlantian rapier tournament at Pennsic is a 5-man melee -- has been for
three years.  The Sea Wars in Savannah was a melee -- 26 Trimarins to 27
Atlantians (we won in seven minutes with only three loses) We started the
Emerald tourney with several melees (one three man unit was particularly
devastating -- Cuan, Anton and Thorbrandr) In these melees we fight against
two sword, sword and dagger, epees, foils, pretty much everything you can
legally carry on to the list. Not saying this is the answer to the discussion
(bowling ball) but  rapier fighters do test one another to prevent excessive
hitting.
