In issue 68 of the TI, an article:  Early Irish Costume by Aeruin ni Hearain
(now Mistress Aeruin).  I sewed several of these over 13 years ago for both
men and women with great success.  An attractive garment.  Lends itself well
to embroidery and trimming.   Good luck with this.
