But when I was Elmet and Brigantia in the East, I regularly did that not only for courts, etc. at Pennsic and other events.  In fact, I 
played "herald as diplomat" as often or more often than I served as court herald.  I issued the War Challenge to the Middle in Mid-Realm 
Court (usually at Coronation) for 3 years running.  And, even after I became Laurel, I was occasionally used as diplomatic adjudicator or 
"fair witness" following old Middle and Eastern tradition.

I am not sure when this tradition faded away.  I know Dawyd z Gury, my successor, did not feel as comfortable with this, but I suspect it 
was during Arval's tenure since I do not recall seeing him perform similar services.  (Josh????)
