Perhaps the reason you feel this is inappropriate is because the purpose
of U.B.A.G. was not fully explained in the initial post. I am familiar
with the creator of the Guild and can explain it, at least, as it was
intended in when it was initially being created. (Forgive me if any of
this information is incorrect, Tunis). The purpose of U.B.A.G. is to add
a bit of fun and excitement for those who wish to play, as well as
providing an additional source of funds for other areas of the SCA. As
it was initially proposed, if you wanted a "hit" placed on someone you
contacted the Guild. The Guild would then contact that person and ask if
they wanted to play. If they didn't, end of discussion. If they did, the
person who wanted the hit would pay a fee (a couple of dollars, I believe
to go to the kingdom). The
target would then have to stop three attempts on their life (either by
poisoning indicated by a sticker on their plates or goblets, or by
stabbing with a foam dagger). If he was successful at stopping the
attempts, then that was it. If he was unsuccessful, his persona died and
he would pay a resurrection fee (again, a couple of dollars) that would
be donated to the Chirugeons. Now, some of this may have changed in the
couple of months since I last had contact with the founder, but I can
tell you that most people who heard about the idea thought it could prove
to be interesting and a potentially good source of funds.
I ask that everyone just step back for a second and calm down
before going off to mail the postmaster. If it was inappropriate, then
tell them politely. There's no need to go off on him for attempting to
make the SCA a bit more historically accurate while at the same time
trying to provide more funds for Atlantia and her Chirurgeons.
