In addition, pigs are smart, persistent, and (. because they have to be let 
loose to forage) tend to get into, and cause, all kinds of problems.  For 
example, there should be a body of caselaw dealing with what happens when 
pigs get into someone else's garden (I know there is for cows, and pigs do 
this much more often than cows do).  And, being free-ranging, they're more 
susceptible to being stolen.

There are African cultures where the entire political/religious cycle is 
motivated by ravaging pigs.  It doesn't surprise me that they've shown up 
quite visibly in Salic law.
