north and south...another needless rant

Poster: John Gahrmann <jrgahrmann@geocities.com>

Alas! a subject that has been beaten like the proverbial dead horse and
has been the cause of hard feelings and discontent.(*WARNING* my attitude
can be offensive to some readers. Take it how you may.)

Folks, the SCA is what each of us makes of it. For the Crowns this often
means taking the bids that they have and choosing the lesser evil. I
appreciate Earl Daffyds commentary and have lived through the days of
Southern Peer Scarcity. (Personally some of the best events have NO
peers. :-P)The kingdom has done it's best over the years to spread the
events around. There is no perfect way to do this. As for events being
north or south, if you dont like the way things are write a letter (and
sign it) and /or get in your car and go to the event to make your voice
heard. The internet is not the forum of the society. If you cant take
the time to do one of these, Waaaaa! this is a hobby dont take it so
seriously.

In roughly 15/16 years of playing I have yet to see a decision made by
the BOD that greatly affected the way I enjoy the SCA. Why? Because this
hobby is what I make of it. I have had a lot of fun, learned a lot and
made some really good friends over the years. I think the BOD (and the
royalty) realizes that if they relly offend the populous we will pack up
our toys and go elsewhere. They have no copyright on a loosely defined
historical hobbyist society.

The problem IMHO is not having to travel, but having to chose between so
many events. I may want to go to a event in the Barony of WayFarAway but
need to stay home and help support my local group with our event. Instead
of griping about where events are, why doesn't somebody find a way to
create more time for our hobby?

Oh well, Ill jump off my (beaten to death) high horse and go back to
lurking.
Respectfully, Johann von Rothenburg
