Actually, Alys, I was in one of the finest independent school districts in the 
country.  That education has made it possible for me to do basic arithmetic 
without a calculator, and write without using a spelling or grammar checker.  
Also, my handwriting is legible.  I often pity those who cannot write well 
(that is to say legibly) because they never got the practice, nor do simple 
multiplication in their heads.
Btw, how old DO you think I am?  ;-)
