No, the BoD does not require the ofice of Constable.
The largest camping event in Atlantia is Emerald Joust. Similar to
Egil's Tourney in that it is a prize tourney over Memorial Day Weekend.
But at most less than 800 people attend. Altantia is smaller in
population than An Tir. (~1500+ people attend Egil's Tourney last I
heard. 765 attended Emerald Joust 1996.)
Having autocratted both events, I appreciate having the constabulary. In
An Tir I could hand over the duties of fire watch, taking money at the
gate, and night patrol to the Adiantum Constable and let him do his
thing.
For Emerald Joust I recruited a volunteer to be in charge of the Gate
and one to be in charge of fire watch and night patrol. They, in turn,
recruited volunteers to stand different watches.
The person who volunteered to be in charge of security has run security
before at events.
There has been at least one major problem at an Atlantian event that I
know of. In that case, the police were called. In my opinion it is not
the duty of Security or the Constabulary to deal with major problems.
They have safety concerns, like fire watch, and concerns of our own
regulations, like people parking in the correct place, and following
site rules. They have no 20th century law enforcement powers or duties.
Regards!
