Master Daniel is quite right. IIRC, from painting studio lo these many
years now, there is also some helpful commentary/instruction on the
subject of real gesso in Ralph Mayer's _The Painter's Craft_ (I may have
his surname spelled wrong ... try the variations if it doesn't turn up in
that form)
