As a volunteer at the Children's Fete, I heard a number of complaints about
the treatment of kids by Security. As my two are 13 and 15, I had not paid
real close attention to the rules in the Pennsic booklet. I reread them
after the party and found them vague. Parents must know where their kids
are(fine). Kids 7 and up could play on the playground without
parents(before the hornets). Kids under 13 must be in camp after dark or
with parent if out of their camp. The implication is that the 7-12s could
be appropriately out and about during the day unsupervised as long as they
are well behaved and parents know where they are. But the rules did not say
that specifically. And it sounds like some security people were not in
agreement with the above implication. IMHO, the rules need to be clearer on
this point.
