On the Relevance of Lord of the Rings to the Society

While I grant you that that thread may have grown a bit too enthusiastic for some of us, those who feel that Tolkien, specifically in the Lord of the Rings volumes, err greatly.

The Tolkienic corpus played a large part in the development of the Society in its earlier years and still has a major effect on its ethos.  Anyone who doubts that need only take a look at the ceremonies and fealty oaths of the more westerly kingdoms.
