Braveheart and all that aside, the name of the man who betrayed Sir William to
the English was Sir John Monteith (another Sottish Knight).  Lord Robert (the
Bruce) did indeed support the English for a time (remember Bannockburn, 1314,
fought to regain Stirling Castle--arguabley Bruce's greatest victory?  He was
fighting alongside the English when they took Stirling in 1306).  But the
Bruce was not the one that allowed Wallace to be captured.
