I was raised to believe that crucifiction may have been common practice
against Catholics for a time (especially most of the apostles) but that
crucifiction upside down was not common practice.  This was something that
Peter had asked for because he didn't feel that he had the right to die
the same way that Jesus had died.  Were you saying that crucifiction was
common or crucifiction upside down was common?  (Course that's what I was
taught by
Catholic theologians.)  I guess there isn't much documentation on the
subject based on recent threads.

Hmm... what about that Saint Peter who insisted he be crucified upside down?
That was in the third or fourth century as a common practice.
