Founded in 1983 in Ravenna, the Accademia Bizantina is one of the most
important musical ensembles in the Italian
musical world. According to its honorary president, Luciano Berio, "It is
the finest existing example in Italy of how to make music together, whether
it be baroque, Mozart or modern composers". The Accademia has taken part in
international festivals and performed extensively in Italy and around the
world. It has won recognition as being one of the most refined groups with
a Seventeenth and Eighteenth century Italian repertoire. Since January 1996
the musicians have entrusted the role of Musical Director to the most
prominent harpsichordist in Italy, OTTAVIO DANTONE, who has been with the
ensemble since 1989. Soprano ANNA CATERINA ANTONACCI started her career
winning the "Verdi", "Maria Callas" and "Pavarotti" International Awards in
1987 and 1988. Her extraordinary talent has given her the ability to
perform a large and eclectic repertoire. She has sung at the Teatro alla
Scala, the Colon Theater of Buenos Aires and at the Bayerische Staatsoper,
at the Opera of Rome, the San Francisco Opera and at the Festival of
Glyndebourne. Ms. Antonacci inaugurated the 1997/98 concert season of
the Teatro alla Scala under the direction of Riccardo Muti. This season Ms.
Antonacci has performed Adalgisa in "Norma" at the San Francisco Opera
and Donna Elvira in " Don Giovanni" at the Teatro alla Scala.
