The fiberglass spear may be the way to go for you, its a bit more
expensive (about $30) but the difference in weight will be a blessing
to you.  Another reason the fiberglass may be a way for you to go is
it’s more rigid that a 9' piece of rattan and good spear work is all
about point control.  One last thought for you, look into getting a
pair of aluminum gauntlets the difference in weight will really help
your speed and ability to fight the length of the battle.
