Re: primo examples of courtly behavior

Another thing to keep in mind is that the young often learn by being led. At Unevent '98, I had travelled 5 hours with my nursing son, and arrived very tired. I asked a gentle in the parking lot where the building was. For all who attended, it was quite a hike when pushing a double stroller with infant and files for the meetings I had to attend, no cloak, and a diaper bag thrown over my shoulder. Wrestling the stroller back up the ramp in the cold was formidable, and the gentle who had
given me directions called out to a young couple to help me to my meeting. They did, and I was much relieved for it. I found out later that the "gentle" was King Logan (incognito without crown). When he entered the meeting I was in, he also made it quite clear that I was not expected to stand for him when my son was in the middle of a meal.
Sometimes just seeing what others do is not enough. While it would be rude for me to suggest someone help me, it is better IMHO for the lords to instruct the young men to look for such opportunites than to run themselves ragged helping me all day. After all, we have plenty of men to help and I feel bad putting upon one lord who does for everyone, no matter how good his intentions are. Chivalry or no? Shouldn't they all be chivalrous? The closest lord helps and the others relax for a
moment?
