I got a lantern at the mall that actually uses lamp oil.  The
oil is completely self contained, so it will not spill.  It has
the advantage over a candle in that you can turn the wick up or
down and thereby control the amount of light it gives out.
If you're in the DC area, the mall I went to was City Place in
Silver Spring.
